Wow!
This is quite interesting.
I am a Kisii from Kenya. We call ourselves 'Abagusii' or 'Gusii' if you like. History has it that we migrated from the Congo through Uganda and entered Kenya splitting from other Bantu tribes at Mt Elgon and headed south to our current location. Like the West African Kissi, we seem to have quite a lot in common socio-economically from farming identical farm produce, Soapstone carving, traditional and leadership structures (Clan units) and practices. I also noted that we pass as a humble, industrious and resilient people who otherwise become very emotionally labile when provoked. I am keenly following this journey of discovery.... Keep the info coming.

Hello to everyone from France !!
I read about kissi country. I just want to make know this information... About kissi empire. The only great kissi monarch was one of my ancestor... Sah Djigbo KOUNDOUNO (koundou no = habitant from Koundou - Kissi language). My mother is Sierra leanease. From Kono District, one of his kingdom vassal. He destroyed the first colonial British troupes on Makona river. So, if anyone is interested on... Please, contact me by e-mail.

Very interesting.I was watching this movie about Sierra Leone or I presume Liberian civil wars.I heard one of the militia shouting to a young boy,"TUGAMA!"From what the boy did I knew he meant kneel down...In Kisii-Kenya,we say the same thing.I was intrigued to learn about existence of our (Kisii) tribe outside Kenya.I think there is some connection between Kisiis and some West African tribe. I listened to some song from I think Cameroon and I noted,"TIKA KOLELA",meaning stop crying.in Kisii we say TIGA KORERA because L is never found in our alphabet.I'll be very grateful to learn more about this from you...

Hi Felix,

I am so glad to read your important comment. I am going to write a few words in Kissi (West Africa) and for you to write them in Kisi (Kenya)so that we could comprehend the differences or similarities:

Navoh - cow
Cheundoh - goat
Kevoh - snake
Chaeyoh - house
Chooh - spoon

Thanks,
Michael Fayia Kallon
